Enjoy the thrilling world of prestidigitation with magician Jeff Lee on Wednesday, July 29, at the Allen Public Library Civic Auditorium, 300 N. Allen Drive. To accommodate magic fans, two performance times will be offered—2:30 and 3:45 p.m. Admission tickets are distributed 30 minutes prior to each show for this free program. The suggested age for children is five and up.
Jeff was born in Texas City, Texas, but raised in Chicago. He and his wife, Katie, have two children, Connor and Capri. After receiving a magic kit for his eighth birthday, magic became Jeff’s hobby for the next ten years. He learned much of his magic by reading books borrowed from his local library. Jeff declares, "I read every magic book between Dewey Decimals 793 and 795."
At age 18, Jeff witnessed the Chicago-based musical The Magic Man, starring David Copperfield. His father, Dennis Lee, provided audio/visual support for that musical and Jeff was allowed to see it up close. Because of that experience, magic became a profession instead of a hobby for him.
Jeff performs at Down Under Pub, Champs Americana, Trinity Hall Irish Pub and Melting Pot. However, his largest audiences have been at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. In 1995, he entertained children during the annual White House Easter Egg Hunt hosted by the Clintons.
"Magic has no universal defi-nition," Jeff states. "To enjoy the show, all beliefs are suspended. Every show is unique. Similar to Christmas, I want my audience to have a sense of wonder created in their hearts." When assessing his career, Jeff notes, "I am a simple person who accomplished extra-ordinary things. I never dreamed that I would entertain all over Europe and for Heads of State." Now that his children are older, his next career goal is to entertain on cruise ships.
In addition to his magic career, Jeff is a climbing director for the Boy Scouts of America and helps scouts earn their Climbing Merit Badges. He plans to climb Mt. Rainier in the state of Washington this summer and Alaska’s Mt. McKinley next summer. To learn more about Jeff, go to www.jeffleemagic.com.
