Commitment. It’s a big word. By definition it means "being bound emotionally and intellectually to an ideal or course of action."

For the past 22 years, Allen Community Outreach (ACO) has been committed to serving those in need in our community, but that is just part of the story. The successes and longevity of ACO are because of the commitment —the pledge to help rebuild families, one family at a time!

The Allen Community Outreach’s Christmas in July campaign is all about hometown commitment. While the Christmas season brings good tidings and generous hearts, the well-being of our community—our neighbors and families—requires a commitment that stretches beyond a particular holiday or season because financial emergencies can occur at any time. As our city reaches build-out, the needs are becoming greater.

As the only human service agency for Allen, Fairview and Lucas, the ACO has helped families rebuild their lives through the services provided. For instance, there is the Jones family that sought help after Mr. Jones was injured and unable to work. With a wife and seven children, he turned to the Allen Community Outreach for help. The ACO provided financial assistance, food, clothing and medical assistance through our mobile clinic to the family as Mr. Jones struggled to get healthy. Unable to continue in his old job because of his injury, Mr. Jones has since found a new job and with the ACO’s assistance, we helped prevent this family from becoming another homeless statistic. That is the power of commitment!

In the coming weeks, you will receive information by mail concerning the Christmas in July campaign. Show your commitment by taking time to complete and return the red and green return envelope with your financial gift! You can also go to our web site and make a secure donation: www.acocares.org or contact ACO at 972-727-9131.
