  • Join the Allen Philharmonic Orchestra in a celebration of our community in voice and spirit as we present our annual holiday concert Do You Hear What I Hear… on Friday, December 18, at Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church, 1015 SH 121 in Allen. This holiday treat begins at 8 p.m. as musical guests, the Allen ISD Elementary Honor Choir and the Allen Symphony Chorus, join our orchestra in a performance of holiday favorites that the entire family will enjoy.

The Allen District Honor Choir is an auditioned chorus comprised of fifth and sixth grade students who represent each of the Allen ISD elementary schools. These students, the Allen ISD elementary school music teachers and Cynthia Nott, artistic director of the Youth Chorus of Greater Dallas, meet after school each week to prepare for our holiday concert.

The Allen Symphony Chorus is a volunteer organization comprised of men and women fulfilling soprano, alto, tenor and bass sections. The chorus is particularly unique, in that it has maintained its grassroots foundation with the vast majority of membership coming from the Allen community. Founded in 2001, the chorus has performed alongside the Allen Philharmonic for holiday concerts, patriotic events and other civic occasions…mastering genres from classical to pop. In addition to orchestra events, the chorus has collaborated with other community performance groups that include the Plano Civic Chorus, Brookhaven Choral Society, Collin College Chorale and Chamber Singers and Texas Voices.

The evening wouldn’t be complete without our mystery guest conductor, an audience sing-a-long and the narration of a classic holiday story by Carl Johnson. Just a few of our musical selections include John Rutter’s "Joy to the World", Ralph Vaughn Williams, "Fantasia on Christmas Carols", "Ding Dong Merrily on High", "Valse Finale et Apotheose" from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker and "Home Alone: Three Holiday Songs" by John Williams.

We encourage our guests to share the holiday spirit by bringing a non-perishable food item that will be donated to Allen Community Outreach’s new pantry or a new unwrapped book that will be given to students in our community who have a great love of reading but might not be able to purchase new books.

Tickets for Do You Hear What I Hear… range in price from $10 to $20 and can be purchased online at www.allenphilharmonic.org or by contacting our office at 972.359.0656. We hope you will make this concert, Do You Hear What I Hear… your family tradition. You will want to purchase your tickets early.

We look forward to seeing you at the symphony and wish you all the joys of the holiday season and best wishes in the New Year.
